Exponents of Real Number - Class 9th

What is Exponent ?

The number of times a number is multiplied by itself is called the exponent of any number. For any number 'a' and a positive integer n, we define an as
an = a×a×a×a×….×a ( n times )
Here, the a is called the base and n is called the exponent of nth power of a.

Laws of Integral Exponents

First Law : am × an = am+n

Second Law :
am an
= am-n

Third Law : (am)n = amn

Fourth Law : (ab)n = anbn

Fifth Law : a0 = 1

Laws of Rational Exponents

First Law : am × an = am+n

Second Law :
am an
= am-n

Third Law : (am)n = amn

Fourth Law : (ab)n = anbn

Fifth Law : am/n = (n√a)m

Fifth Law : a0 = 1
